MeterMonkey
A mobile-first app for reading Winnipeg water meters with the phone camera and getting the submission done with less friction.
MeterMonkey started with a very ordinary problem: people miss meter reads, then get estimated bills.
The idea was to reduce the friction as much as possible:
- remind the user when the reading is due
- use the phone camera to capture the meter face
- read the digits with OCR / vision
- let the user confirm before submitting
It’s practical, local-government-adjacent, and exactly the kind of thing that should be easier than it currently is.
The first version focused on getting the workflow real before worrying about polish.
